Where Orthodontic Care is Today

Modern technology has improved many things over the past few decades, and orthodontics is one of them. Dental imperfections that once may not be fixed now could, and smiles everywhere are brighter as a consequence of it.

How has orthodontics improved? In many ways, through innovation, digital imaging, and state of the art technology.

Orthodontic Care & Children’s Dentistry Innovations

Listed here are some of the latest innovations:

• Braces are not as noticeable and embarrassing as previously. As opposed to metal, they are available in enamel colored or clear now, which are barely seen. They cost more than traditional metal braces, but are just as effective.

• If you do not want your braces to appear at all, you may now opt for hidden lingual braces. These require adjustments more frequently, which may be uncomfortable. The upside are that the arch wires and brackets are applied to the back of the teeth, so they truly are virtually unseen.

• You may also opt for Invisalign™, which are aligners that are calculated precisely to gradually straighten teeth. They must be changed every two weeks and are quite expensive, but they are comfortable, clear, and removable.

• Traditional braces feature elastic ligature bands. Self-ligating braces feature lighter wires and employ a slide mechanism to move the teeth; they ar3e more comfortable and easier to clean. The downside – they are quite visible.

Digital imaging and advanced computer graphics will drive orthodontic advances within the next century. These advances will lead to improved treatments and improved results due to enhanced, individualized diagnosis. Some orthodontists believe that computers and computer technology won't only enhance the future of orthodontics, but also orthodontic diagnoses themselves.

In the future, your children and their children may not have to fear the dentist, as advances are coming so rapidly that it's quite possible pain-free dental care is on the horizon. Technology advances at rapid rates, and that is good news for all of the adults who shy away from the dreaded dentist chair as well!
